Foster’s weekend started perfectly on Saturday, with pole position and a flag-to-flag victory in Race 1 at his home circuit.
Wet conditions on Sunday morning made things more difficult in Race 2, with Foster making contact with Sonic Motor Racing team-mate and championship rival Cameron Waters, breaking the front suspension on Foster’s Steeline Mygale, forcing him to retire from the race.
Starting from the rear of the field for the third and final race, Foster stormed through the pack to finish in second place behind Waters, giving him third overall for the round.
Round 5 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held alongside the Shannons Nationals at Sandown International Raceway in Melbourne, Victoria on September 9-11.
NICK FOSTER – #2 Steeline Mygale Commodore
“It was very much a mixed weekend for the Steeline Mygale,” said Nick Foster.
“It could have been the best weekend we’ve ever had and it could have been the worst weekend we’ve ever had given we had a great start but then a terrible second race.
“We’ve salvaged something from it and obviously it’s not exactly what we would’ve wanted, but we’ve done our best and to come back and finish third overall for the weekend, which is not too bad obviously.

(L-R) Steeline-backed driver Nick Foster, Cam Waters and Matty Brabham made it a Sonic Motor Racing clean sweep of the podium in Ipswich
“If the track was dry I think we definitely could have had it our own way. We showed in the last race that if the track is dry we could have had it our own way. Our Steeline car was good this weekend and I was driving really well.
“In the wet in Race 2 Cam and I were having a little battle there. I went for a move, halfway into the braking zone I sort of pulled out of it and as I pulled out of it I just locked a rear, and as I locked it I just slid into the back of Cam and broke my right front suspension.
“So it’s a little bit disappointing and this weekend could have been really, really good but unfortunately we just had to salvage what we could.”
