Steeline-backed driver Nick Foster has won the final round of the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship at Symmons Plains Raceway near Launceston, Tasmania over the weekend.

Foster put in a dominant performance to cap his Formula Ford career, collecting pole, two race wins and a second place finish to grab his first overall round victory for the season.

The Queenslander finished the season in third place in the championship standings, behind Sonic Motor Racing team-mate Cameron Waters and CAMS Rising Star driver Jack Le Brocq.

Foster and Waters battled hard all weekend at the short and fast Symmons Plains layout, with Foster pleased to put together such a strong round to end the season after a year of great speed but also many ups and downs.

NICK FOSTER – #2 Steeline Mygale (Sonic Motor Racing):

“It’s a massive credit to the whole Sonic team, because the car was just brilliant all weekend,” said Foster.

“For me to be able to maintain the lead and hold off the drivers behind is all thanks to the boys who have just done an amazing job.

“It’s the first time all year that I’ve been able to put a consistent round together, which is a good feeling and a nice way for me to finish my time in Formula Ford.

“It’s also a nice way to thank the whole Sonic team for all their work this season.
It wouldn’t be here without them, Steeline and all my sponsors, and all my family and friends who support me.

“Obviously I would have liked to be on the top step of the podium in the championship as well, but it didn’t work out that way in the end. I pushed as hard as I could this weekend to get second from Jack, but in the end it wasn’t to be.”

QUESTION: A great way to finish the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship – pole position, win in Race 1, second in Race 2 and a win in Race 3 to win the round in what is your final Formula Ford event. You must be rapt to finish the season on a high?

“Yeah absolutely. That will be our last race in Formula Ford, so it’s an awesome feeling.

“It has been a long time coming. I know I’ve said that before during the year, but it really is. To do it in the way we’ve done it, it’s a great feeling.

“We’ve had some stiff competition this year. Cam (Waters) and I drove really hard in the first two races this weekend, and the last race was very tough with the whole pack behind me.

“We’ll take this and move on. I’m looking forward to the future.”

QUESTION: All year, at every single track, you’ve shown pace, but mechanical problems and other things have hampered you. It must be nice to put together a weekend where your worst result was a second place?

“It has definitely been a good round – probably the most consistent round I’ve had here in my two years here at the team.

“This is a massive compliment to Mick Ritter and the Sonic team. I’ve grown as a person and a driver with their team and it has been an awesome experience. I’m just looking forward to what’s happening in the future.”

QUESTION: So is there any news you can tell your supporters on what’s happening in the future?

“There’s a few things cooking. We’re not ready to talk about it yet. You’ll just have to wait and see.”
